This is a beautiful, small-format rug from the Lilian (Lilihan) region in the Hamadan province of western Iran. At 110 x 83 cm, it is a classic “scatter rug” or “mat,” perfect for a doorway, under a small coffee table, or as a wall display. The design is a striking blend of floral elegance and geometric structure.

The design is a prominent “Central Medallion” layout with a distinctly floral-meets-geometric aesthetic. The center is dominated by a large, diamond-shaped, lobed medallion that features a complex, stepped interior with a vibrant orange-yellow center and radiating teal and pink elements. Directly above and below this central medallion are stylized, hanging floral vases or “bouquets,” from which branches and flowers shoot upward and outward into the red field. The field is densely populated with asymmetrical, scattered floral sprays, flowering vines, and small geometric rosettes. The main border features a repeating “floral vine and leaf”pattern, where stylized blossoms in blue, pink, and cream are connected by a meandering vine.

This rug features one of the most vibrant and classic Persian village palettes. The field is a brilliant, rich crimson red or madder red, which serves as a luminous, high-energy background. The large central motifs are woven in deep maroon, chocolate brown, and slate grey, creating a heavy, grounding anchor. The floral vines that climb through the field are highlighted in teal blue, navy blue, cream, salmon pink, and mustard yellow. The main border is a darker, burgundy red with repeating floral and geometric patterns in blue, pink, and cream. The top and bottom edges feature short, full fringes in natural cream wool.
