This is a hand-knotted vintage Tuyserkan rug, originating from the Hamadan Province in western Iran. It is approximately 60 years old and measures 125 by 87 centimeters (roughly 4’1” x 2’10”), making it a perfect small accent rug, prayer mat, or wall hanging.
The design is a classic “Medallion and Corner” layout with a distinctly geometric tribal aesthetic. The center is dominated by a large, stepped diamond medallion with jagged, latch-hook edges that extend outward like a fortress. Inside this pink diamond is a smaller, geometric cross or star in navy and cream. At the four corners of the black field, there are quarter-medallion spandrels in pink and blue, featuring stepped, triangular shapes that mirror the central medallion. The field surrounding the medallion is not empty; it is populated by stylized animals (small deer or goats) and tiny bird-like figures woven in pink and blue, alongside small geometric stars. The main border features a dark navy ground with repeating stylized floral rosettes and diamonds in pink, blue, and cream, flanked by a thin, repeating ivory zigzag guard border.

The color palette is dramatic and deeply saturated. The primary field is a deep charcoal black or midnight navy, which serves as a dark, absorbing canvas. The bold, stepped central motif is woven in a bright salmon pink and dusty rose, creating a striking, high-contrast focal point. The corner spandrels are also woven in salmon pink and brick red, anchoring the corners. Accents of teal blue, cream, and ivory are used to outline the geometric shapes and detail the small animals within the field.
